He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

Probably because Namco recently sent a bunch of cease letters to people infringing Pac-Man and they think they will do the same for these, or because it's a deal with Nintendo who are anti-emulation, or both, don't know but those are my guesses.
It's fricking worthless to emulate when we already have the originals.

There's pretty strong evidence at this point that Nintendo believes they don't own Donkey Kong aside from the actual characters of DK and Mario. So that's a non-factor.

Yes. Whatever renditions of the games that machine does are almost certainly less accurate than MAME already is, and Couriersud is not done yet.

I haven't heard about this. I thought a team led by Shigaru Miyamoto programmed all of DK...

I've deleted the story link but nope. He came up with the idea and another company programmed it and there was a weird contract with copy limitations etc. and lawsuits. After Nintendo got it from them they learned from it and programmed all their own stuff after that.

Wow, funny how mythologies sprout up about these things. It seems like the first time I read about DK, Shigeru Miyatmoto programmed it almost single-handedly.

The 3-in-1 DK,JR,MBros must be emulated because in DK the machine gives 800 points, as displayed, and not 500 points, when you jump over 3 (or more) barrels.
This was an error in the original machine, or not!
The mystery continues..
