A Cat 5 Cyclone is bearing down on FNQ (Far North Queensland) in Australia. e.g. near Cairns. It's going to be a nasty fucker. 150+ mph winds.
Cat 5 is the strongest possible storm. The scale stops at 5. There's no such thing as Cat 6 or higher.
My advice (fwiw): Tie everything down that can be tied down, get to higher ground, shelter in a strong place away from windows, and stay safe.
Good luck all MAMERS living in FNQ.

I feel with you. Even if we just have a 'normal' (at least for me as a European) winter storm here...

Not sure I understand how to read it. The message says cat 5 but the chart looks like it says class 3 (the cyclone/hurricane symbol with a 3 in it...)

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!

I can confirm that it will be a Category 5 event, and will only start to decrease after the bulk of it has entered the mainland.

I've added some annotations / notes to the diagram:
As you can see it is Cat 4 out at sea and then strengthens to Cat 5 as it approaches the coast, and then weakens quickly (Cat 4 ... 3 ... 2 .... 1) once over land, as it still dumps lots of rain.
