TTL emulation
#244214 - 01/22/11 05:41 PM

i know mame cant emulate TTL chips yet but will there ever be a simulator for them?i would like to see the original breakout or deathrace.i did see a simulator called dice but it seems to be in its early stages.

I’m convinced Mario is a hobo.
He wakes up everyday in the same clothes, runs around in sewers, and collects coins for a living.
At the end of the day, he uses the coins to buy mushrooms

AFAIK Dice/Sedit(date?) is the only way to go for now.

Look for posts here by pullmoll; he was working on such a project.

One of the roadblocks, regarding MAME architecture structure, is out of the way after code was changed in MAME in which a cpu is now treated as a device (like other hardware devices). This means the cpu is optional (if pcb uses one) rather than being necessary.

There are still other roadblocks such as having MAME be able to deal with netlist type code, and other parts of MAME might also have to be updated including adding further TTL device support.

In the meantime, Juergen/pullmoll was showing his progress with his TTL emulation.

CVSweb can be found at http://pmbits.ath.cx/cgi-bin/cvsweb/

The directory access to ttl and sedate moved again:

Enjoy,
Juergen

Juergen/pullmoll's post explains why it is very slow compared to Adam's DICE.

If wanting to try it, read Stiletto's post because it explains how to set up the TTL emulator and try one of the programs (pong, rebound, Space Race) which none are fully emulated either.

I am guessing one of the reasons is because emulating analog hardware (coin control etc) is a challenge. There has to be some set method of how to emulate the circuitry of what the analog components do. Another roadblock itself.

see Adam Bousley's post

For Exidy Death Race, the pcb has a few proms data that have not yet been dumped. A Death Race pcb is needed.

There have been a few non-cpu games (that use prom data) that have already been dumped such as Stunt Cycle, various Ramtek games, or various Meadows games.

What is also needed for Meadows games is the logic schematics paperwork, and finding Meadows schematics is a challenge because they are rare compared to Atari, Midway, Exidy paperwork of the 1970s.

WOW!thats pretty interesting.thats a nice link.TTL EMULATION WAS ALWAYS ONE OF MY INTEREST.i love stuff from the 70s and early 80s.i remeber when i came across the computer space simulator. i almost fell off of my chair.thank you for the info.you guys are great.

dice is a good emulator.im just lost on the progress on TTL simulation since its not a subject i could find around the net besides here.mabe cause its old school.NO.... ancient school.
