Windows7 help: infuriating quick launch
#242859 - 01/06/11 06:17 PM

How do I set it to where I can drop shortcuts or folders into the quick launch area to add a new shortcut button there instead of going to some nonsense "pinned" area in the start menu? And how to I change it to be 2 layers of small icons (top and bottom) like I had it with Vista/XP?

Thanks, that worked. I now have control of the MCP again. Time to appropriate some programs.

You can also pin stuff to the taskbar, which is similar to Quicklaunch except the icon becomes the task when the app is launched. I prefer it, but they take up more room than Quicklaunch icons, so I guess it depends on how many things you like to have pinned.

I used it for a day. It was useful in some ways like saving overall space compared to having the quick launch + the area where you have a rectangle button for every single thing you have open but overall its annoyance outweighed the good. For one thing, you can't have it launch just anything like the quick launch can, you drag a folder into the area and it does nothing, and some shortcuts dropped in there didn't add a button and just wanted to be pinned into the start menu, which I still haven't been able to get back to my preferred single row format.
