Windows help
#242816 - 01/06/11 06:13 AM

I got a new hard drive and installed Windows 7 on it and turned my old C drive into a secondary drive. Some of the folders I just want to keep it it (like MAME) but some (like Windows) are now worthless so I want to delete them but it says I don't have permission. How do I get around it?

right click folder >>> properties >>>security tab >>> edit.

If you don't have permission to change permissions, right click my computer >>> manage >>> users and groups >>> users >>>>add yourself tot he administrators group.

Still doesn't work, it says I need permission from "TrustedInstaller". I am set as a member of Admins...

Screw it, I'll move the big folders to another drive while I sleep and format that bastard in the morning I guess.

Try this: Right-click on the folder, choose Properties, and click the Security Tab. Click "Advanced" and select the Owner tab. Click "Edit", then select your user account under "Change owner to". Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click OK or Apply. It should let you delete the folder now.

Still doesn't work, not it says I need permission from an administrator to do it, even though I am set up as one.

I tried that and with changing the rights on the whole drive too, seemed to work at first and then after everything from a folder would be supposedly moved to the trash it would give the same Admin rights error. It wasn't worth the trouble so I moved the files to the new C: and formatted. I'm surprised I had the rights to do that. :-P
