Hi, Does anyone recognise this space invaders variant?
It is a monochrome version, using the same hardware as usual for space invaders.
It was called "space invaders II", but is not the same as space invaders part 2 by taito.
There was a flashing saucer worth 500 points, but its shape was different. When you shot it, the game froze for a moment while a short tune was played.
After the second or third level, the game let you enter your name, before the game was over. This is probably the most significant difference.
I think there was also a level where the invaders jumped down vertically, but without horizontal motion.
Any ideas?
cheers,
Pete

I don't know which one either, but try IPM Invader

There was some SI hardware documenting a while ago. Probably more needing to be done later? There are some SI clone variations not yet emulated such as (Sigma's Golden Invaders ?)

Not IPM invaders.. I remember that one.. It was insanely fast.
The hardware of the game I remember was identical to normal midway monochrome space invaders (L shaped logic board set), and it was a rom swap to upgrade.

Nope, that's midway space invaders deluxe/space invaders 2.
This game came out about a year later, and I dont think it was taito or midway. There was no flying spaceship between levels, like there is on SI deluxe. It also was monochrome, and was a rom swap for the original space invaders hardware.
I'm pretty sure it was called "Space Invaders II", not "Space Invaders part II"
It is definitely not the 2 player simultaneous cocktail game that was loosely based on space invaders, and was called space invaders 2, released about the same time.
