Actually more complex, as gears were of standard lego sizes, not purpose-made.

Lego is (at least the older stuff) is proportional to each other. With increasing sizes by 1LU (a 1x1 dot). So you could figure it out easy enough.

Well, sure they match each other, but as they said, they had to multiply and divide to get it right, where custom gears could go straight to the proper ratio.
I think the device was shown to do more than that, though. Using an Earth-centric model, as well?
