RefreshForce?
#240875 - 12/10/10 03:12 AM

Anyone familiar with this and what it does?

The first information pane is a drop-down, and shows which monitor is being used - for example, default monitor, or plug and play monitor. In my case it has memory of a Compaq monitor I hooked up, a plug and play monitor, and two default monitors.

Generally, when I've turned on the monitor after XP boot-up, the default monitor is used. If the monitor is on at PC power-on, or if I re-start the system, the plug and play monitor is used.

Why? And is there some registry or other setting(s) to alter or amend this behavior?

If I recall correctly, RefreshForce was used back in the Windows 2000 days.

There was some sort of bug in windows and/or video drivers where games wouldn't run at higher refresh rates, even if your video hardware and monitor was capable. This utility was used to "force" desired refresh rates for certain resolutions.

I seriously doubt that it's needed anymore.

I think this is the homepage...

I know where to find it. I've been using it because in XP it is an issue in a very special case: using SDL modes in Advancemame, SVGA and XGA are some weird variant that my arcade multinsync doesn't like when the 'default monitor' is used. The refresh rates for VGA, SVGA, and XGA are reported as 240hz, so I use refreshforce to make them 60.

But the default monitor 'forcings' don't work with Advancemame. Only those of the Plug and Play monitor do, so I was trying to see if there was a way to 'erase' the default monitor option from the list. From availability. In the thread here, I was just using Refreshforce as a reference to show what I was talking about.
