Chase HQ 2 (2006)
#240171 - 12/02/10 07:51 PM

I have seen the new Chase HQ 2 that came out in 2006. Does anyone know when it will be emulated or available for Mame or PC?

The date information shows that it was released in March 2007 - http://www.taito.com/arc/title/2008/details/chasehq2.html for the Taito Type X2 arcade system. Given the stats of this PC-based system is fairly impressive, true emulation of such a game is literally years away.

You'd think Taito would release this for Windows. Eh.

John Carmack and Tim Sweeney's latest engine war is on the iPhone. If that doesn't signal the end of PC gaming I'm not sure what does.

Last I checked downloaded games on PC were booming, RTS and TBS games like Star Craft and Civilization are selling like hotcakes and companies like TellTale have made quite a name for themselves revitalizing the graphical adventure market. Don't even get me started on PopCap and its ilk. Now add the MMOs, FPSs and Sims clones mentioned in a previous post. People keep screaming that PC gaming is dead but I just don't see it. Games still sell well, gaming PCs still sell well, what are they measuring this "death" by? Because of iPhone apps? Console sales? Just cause your market share "shrinks" because the market as a whole passes a tipping point doesn't mean you're doomed. Consoles and portables outsell PC games now, but PC sales are stronger then they have ever been. Just because they haven't kept pace with a market that is booming doesn't mean its the end of the world

You forgot about the sports genre that gets boring two weeks after completing it. Do people actually collect EA Sports games? I just simply couldn't imagine someone (unless Brazilian maybe) having a collection of FIFA 96/97/98/99/00/01/02/03/04/05/06/07/08/09/10/11 sitting in their living room! Replace FIFA with NFL/NHL/NBA/AFL/NRL/Cricket/NASCAR/V8 Supercars/RandomJockeySim etc for other examples...

There's still a market on the PC in casual, MMORPGs, and RTS. Unfortunately two of those segments are not growing and casual's equally huge on phones (if there's a better timesuck than Angry Birds I don't want to know about it). FPS superiority and technological superiority both have gone away (the latter because XP/DX9 refuse to die).

But the real point is that a a PC port of an unknown sequel to a 20 year old arcade racer that isn't named "Daytona" or "Ridge Racer" would ship directly to the bargain bin - they'd be unlikely to recoup even a fraction of the costs of reworking it to run on all kinds of video cards and so on.
