nGlide - Glide wrapper DLLs (freeware) http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
"nGlide is a 3Dfx Voodoo Glide wrapper. It 'emulates' 3Dfx Glide Library, so you don't need a 3Dfx Voodoo graphics card to play 3Dfx Glide API games. nGlide translates all Glide callings to Direct3D. Glide wrapper also supports high resolution modes."
... for Glide based games like "Gradius 4"
I tried on a PC game here that only supports Glide, and it worked without a single problem.

That is around for some years now, and similar wrappers.

Last time i tried a glide wrapper was probably around 1999. They tend to be really buggy if you don't have the right video card. The reason was probably trying to run a plugin based emulator like UltraHLE, Zinc or maybe PSEmu Pro. I can't remember which one required strictly a 3DFX card.
It's been a long time since i last heard about a glide wrapper, i though they ceased to exist. It might be interesting to find them some use. Though a DOS based one would be great.

nGlide is the newest Glide wrapper on the scene, to be honest. November 7th, 2009.
What's new for this version: http://www.zeus-software.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=85

This one has the widest compatibility to date, tested by the author. He even makes application compatibility patches available in his compatibility list. So far, I am REALLY impressed!
I'm still hoping someone starts making wrappers for some of the other antique 3D APIs...

The original Tomb Raider or original MDK? (the GLIDE support in MDK was a patch IIRC, it was software only at release!)

Great tip, Ciro.
Now I'll make everything to put my beloved Blood (GT Interactive) running on Glide again, like old times...

Heh, I remember playing Carmageddon 2 with that wrapper on my 16MB Nvidia TNT many years ago and seeing fog in the distance for the first time. Somehow fog didn't make it into the default D3D renderer. > In more recent news... I recall reading somewhere that DOSbox was going to add Glide > emulation, but I can't find a link.
Follow development here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=25606 It's based on MAME's Voodoo emulation code.
Have a look around while you're there, I think you'll feel at home

wrapper for Centipede

I'd like to find a wrapper that makes glide work for Centipede. That game looked best on 3DFX. The PSX version is not as good.

Do not p-mail me for help compiling my updates, ask on the board.
Do not request sound for your favorite game. I work on whatever, when I get around to it.
If you have schematics for discrete sound games not easily found on the net, I would be interested.

UltraHLE (and SupraHLE) used the Glide stuff. It ran like utter crap on onboard graphics chipsets such as Intel 82810 back in those days; in fact with that chipset, you couldn't even run most emulators as they would hang while loading a game, crash on load of the actial program, or even lock up Windows (FreezeSMS did this), baulking at the 24-bit colour depth! You had to drop the graphics to 16-bit mode just to run the emulator in some cases, as any card or chipset with 24-bit graphics did not support 32-bit mode at all under Windows (the old S3 ViRGE cards didn't either, but the S3 Trio did).
Thankfully, MAME (Windows ver) worked perfectly fine in its then-native DirectDraw mode, supporting 16, 24 and 32-bit modes (and even 8-bit in the early versions I think).

I suggested to the nGlide author that he test it out on his next compatibility test, I don't own the game.
