Seems to be specific to Windows 7 or something else on your PC. Vista 64-bit doesn't crash.

Bad memory possible? Can you run the Windows memory test to see the results?

I got a report that use of effects other than NONE is crashing MAME. Try to see if that is a problem for you.

Yep, changing to an effect crashes MAMEUI64 for me. I always use "none".

This is the perfect reason MAME distributes U versions in the first place - we can't test every little thing and need user help to weed out all these hidden issues :P

I did (bootable CD) and passed the test, but it's 32-bit only so it can't test all my memory.

Thanks, Both MAMEUI and command-line MAME work with effect none.

I usually unzip new MAME "u" releases over the previous version, and it works perfectly.

This time, MAME crashes as soon as I boot any game.

I had to delete the mame.ini file to make it work again, but well I need to configure it again.

I made a few tests and discovered that it's because I'm using the "effects" (included in the "artwork" folder).

Whatever effect I use, MAME crashes.

Here's a report:

I'm using MAMEui-139u4, 32-bit on Win XP SP3 with Phenom2 quad processor 955. Video card is Geforce 8400 gs.

Hope this helps

Love your simulators, but this is the most useless report ever since you're replying to someone saying exactly that -effect crashes this version

Sorry I just subscribed this forum, didn't notice the "tree" view and the previous reply to my posts. :-)

Should I expect for some update to 139u4, that allows me to use effects again?

Well, the code for the fix is in the MAME SVN tree and release 0.140 will have it fixed. You'll either need to live without it for a few more days or use an older version of MAME.
