For PSX i use the still in development, higher compatibility than ePSX and plugin free XEBRA/ARBEX v101010. Download link at the bottom. Don't mind the language, emulator has english menus.

For PS2, PCSX2 is the only way to go.

Xebra might be the most compatible PSX emulator around but it's not very user friendly.

For a more intuitive (and also plugin-free) Playstation emulator try pSX:

Another mistake? Damn, i have not luck today.

What i was meant to say is XEBRA has higher compatibility than pSX (not ePSXe). If i recall correctly pSX has sound issues with Resident Evil and Silent Hill, doesn't happen with XEBRA.

Yeah, pSX would be the first choice. If you have a game not working correctly or some compatibility problem annoys you, then use XEBRA.

I think you can get around this either by playing the PAL version of those games, or playing with the sync settings. I am about halfway through both those games in pSX (though it's been years since I last played them) and I don't remember having any sound issues.

/EDIT

Also try adjusting the sound latency, I could go quite a bit lower than the default on the Audigy 2 that I had back then. IIRC the underwater sequence in the intro to Metal Gear Solid is good for finding the optimal sound latency setting.

Yeah, it's possible it had anything to do with sound latency. The only thing affected in Resident Evil was the attract mode after transiting between FMV and title screen. I accommodated pretty well with XEBRA, is not any complex and unfriendly as a standard plug in based emulator anyway. Besides, since 16-bit era i can't stand PAL/European versions of anything. First it was because of the heavy censoring, now and forever is the non neutral spanish and bad dubs. I'll stick with USA and Japan (american english and japanese) releases only.
