I never "got" Basquiat's work. One of my friends is obsessed with it.

To be honest, 'Street Art' and the whole 'Art is anything you can get away with without being arrested' thing escapes me anyway. I just like the Basquiat movie with Bowie playing Warhol.

My friend is a "street artist" in that he'll paint a piece...spend weeks on it, and then in the night go out and hang it somewhere, whether on a city wall, bus stop, sidewalk, bench...take a picture of it for his portfolio and then leave it there. I should mention that his work is very good.
Sometimes the art is taken down, defaced, pasted over, thrown away, vandalized, or in some cases they stay up for months at a time before anything happens to it.
He does this anonymously with a few other people. I consider myself an artist and I can see "art" in just about anything, but I guess I can't understand the point of spending weeks painting something and putting your emotions into it and then leaving it somewhere where it can only be appreciated by a few, and more often then not, not getting appreciated at all and it getting scrapped.
I guess I'm not that particular breed of artist.
