Dead or Alive 2, long loading screen
#234252 - 09/22/10 03:35 PM

Has anyone found a workaround for getting past the long loading screen in Dead or Alive 2?
After the Naomi logo and jingle, a blue screen shows up stating the cabinet has a new jamma I/O board and then you have to wait ~28 seconds while it performs some tests.

I've gone into the service mode, but there is nothing there to bypass this screen.
Perhaps there is some way to trick the software into thinking the I/O board is not new? This happens with both, Makaron and Demul, and I know that Makaron saves both nvram and xram or whatever the ram of the naomi board is called.

How fast are you running the driver? Press F11 to find out.
Possible you aren't patient enough.
Possible that something broke the driver.
Possible that the red GAME_NOT_WORKING flag has something to do with it too.

Well, I should have mentioned that I did not really run it in MAME (way to slow on my machine). This is more of a general question about the game and system. Teh 28 second countdown is real-time and the screen shows a counter for it.

Did the counter reach 0?

Yes it does and the game loads.
I was just wondering if there is a way not get this screen every time the game is loaded.

Well, if it works, why complain? Maybe it needs to adjust and can't save.

It's a minor nuisance to be sure but if somebody knows how to get around it, my obsessive compulsive nature will be satisfied for a while and it will help me stay off medication.

Oh, right. Just best to wait for someone else to answer, though I don't think you can IMO.

Thanks.
I think there might be a way for the BIOS or the game software to skip this as it "thinks" it has a new I/O board and it probably does the test only once when this board is changed.

The Naomi BIOS doesn't do this, and I wouldn't expect DOA2 to either.

Correct. It's not the NAOMI BIOS since it happens after the logo screen. It is the game software that's doing it.

Someone on the Demul forum who owns the actual board told me that the original hardware acts like this and he hasn't found a way around it either so I'll call it good.

If you ever owned the Dreamcast version you may have noticed it does more or less the same. A black screen appears with a progress bar and it reads something like "Loading DOA2 engine". What you want it's like removing part of the gameplay, this isn't CPS-3 hardware.
