Two Tigers cassette tape?
#233694 - 09/17/10 10:47 PM

Do we need a recording of the cassette tape that is inside Two Tigers?
According to the history, the recording is a music soundtrack.
The owner thought the tape plays the sound effect of the planes flying around..

I will have access to the machine again in a month and can pull the tape if needed.

Yes we need a recording.

Yes, I have a tape, too.

No, I don't no where to send it.

No, I don't know why I didn't mention this sooner.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

I've done a lot of high quality tape transferring but my last deck broke and I chunked it. I'll buy a used one if you want to loan this to me, I have some other stuff I need to transfer at some point anyway. This is unless someone else wants to do it. I could send it back with the Truck K. boards after I get them back from Guru.

Mark Clayton might be the person to talk with regarding audio tapes since he should have the equipment to process the tapes.

It's an 8-track? If so, skip what I said earlier. I thought this game used a cassette tape like Journey.

Edit: BTW if you know or if Do talks to that guy ask him to put zipped wav files of the original recordings up instead of mp3's. If you're trying to preserve something you don't kiddie style lossy compress it to speed up 30 seconds on a download.

It might be a tape cassette format. I am not sure. Gyro will remember since he dealt with an upright cab years ago.

I am mentioning M. Clayton since he might be able to make a decent quality format in case the original is still in decent shape.

Is it 8-track or cassette? I could do it if it's a cassette. I've archived mainly data cassettes, but it works the same way for audio. Send me a PM if you're interested.

Unless it is a different "Two Tigers" than the one that was released in "1984" I highly doubt it's an 8-Track!!!

WOW, WTF?????????

According to this page:

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?letter=T&game_id=10242

Technical
The dedicated game uses an 8-track tape player to play background sound effects (ack-ack, fighter's engines, shouting, explosions, etc.) while the game is in progress. The original tape is hard (impossible?) to find, but the game can be played without it. (Truth be told, the tape adds too much ambience to enjoy the game fully without it.) The Tron conversion does not use the tape, and the ROMs provide some very cool-sounding engine noise which increases in pitch when you are diving.

There are different ROM sets depending on whether the game is dedicated, or a Tron conversion. The current MAME includes both sets.

Did Bally/Midway have a crapload of nos 8-Track players that they needed to unload or what???

I guess they got a bunch of nos unsold/useless inventory 8-Track decks and tapes from someone for cheaper than they could add cassette equipment to the cabs for and it cut down on the bottom line. 8-Track quality would have been fine. Still weird for '84 but makes sense if that is what happened.

8-track tapes play in a continuous loop too.

Continuous loop cassettes have been around forever as well!

Just makes little sense.

8 track offers not only continuous looping, but 4 hot swappable audio feeds. Not to mention it was cheap, easy, and a proven concept with spare parts available at every radio shack or the nearest auto yard.

If it's 8-track I can do it. That reminds me, I have Ramtek Trivia Dumps sitting on my drive.....

In that case gregf will be right over lathered up and ready!

Should he wear the Wild Gunman chaps or do you have a He-Man costume for him?

Sorry to resurrect this old thread. Did this audio ever get ripped?
