these ads always show some terrible player making bad choices. the concept of these "lane barrel shooters" seems cool, but from what i understand, they are all fake gameplay videos and the actual game you download from the app store will be some pos that doesn't resemble it.

Sort of.
There does not seem to be a game which is just that.
The mobile game Last War consists mostly of levels similar to this, with some of them having a moving path (you reach an end of the road), power-up/down gates, barrels, and zombies.
Not all of them have all these.
I wouldn't call it "fun" though.

I've played games based on earlier concepts they did this with, and they typically don't think about it enough to make the game interesting.
