konami shmup death mechanism - suggestion

throughout a ship's life, power-up capsules are enumerated and tallied (maximum amount is whatever number is required to max all upgrades). upon death, half of the capsule amount is lost, and the remaining half are allowed to be re-distributed for the following ship.

gradus when you die half your power ups are given to next life to avoid check point recover fails not a great ideal because it would mean dying would lack any meaning.

what game is this?
i've never played a konami shooter where *everything* wasn't lost on death. "hard to recover from losing all upgrades" is the universal criticism to their titles.

*now* it starts to make sense ! (somewhat)
Yes, a lot of shmups make you lose your power-ups on death, essentially 'forcing' you to finish the game on a single life.
If I recall correctly, 'R-Type' from Irem does the exact same thing, for example.
