In MAME, in the pretty straight-forward side-scrolling arcade-game SHMUP 'Blazing Star' (blazstar) (1998) (Yumekobo), there is a behavior that I fully expect to be a bug in the original game, but am curious to know if anyone knows enough about it to either confirm or deny it.
Throughout each level, you get the opportunity to grab/collect all the individual letters of the word L-U-C-K-Y, for greater glory. When collecting each individual letter, the game displays 'collect all panels', and the idea is that once you have collected all letters, it would display 'collected all panels'. However, it often happens to me that the text 'collected all panels' already displays when you only have grabbed one or two letters of the word 'lucky', but not all. (the difference being that the game states that you actually have collected all of the letters, when you actually have not).
Is there anyone who knows enough about this to state if this was a bug of the original game, or whether it might be a bug in the emulation ?
Thanks in advance.
--- EDIT --- PS: The game also shows which letters you already collected, which is correct. It it 'just' the phrase 'collected all' that appears, when you actually have not (yet).
Ok. I can see my post has gotten some views, but unfortunately no response yet. So I decided to record the gameplay (and create a snapshot) with MAME 0260, which hopefully make the described behavior somewhat easier to see. It happened quite early in the game, so you won't have to wait long when playing back the recorded gameplay.
Both the snap and the recorded gameplay should show that the text 'collected all panels' already appears, when only the letter 'L' of the word lucky has been picked up.

I see what you are talking about:
-- When you get the L, U, C, K, it says "COLLECTED ALL PANELS!" -- When you get the Y, it says "COLLECT ALL LUCKY PANELS!!"
So yeah... you would expect those to be reversed.
Link below is gameplay on an actual arcade machine... looks like that's how the game is:
RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

But your description might describe it more accurately.

Hey, thanks for taking the time and effort to look into that !
Yeah, the video of the actual game does indeed show the same behavior, so thanks for clearing that up. It's something that has been bothering me for forever (years, easily, and perhaps even a decade or so) but I never have taken the time to ask around for before now.
So thanks again for looking into that, and confirming the same thing happens on the actual PCB.
After reading this, it has appearance of being an addition of a BTANB report to add to the game as an entry for BTANB section on MAMETesters website….that is if it is accepted. To me, it is some game logic bug issue that should have been fixed by the company while game was being marketed back then.
The description issue should be documented somewhere so others will be aware it is not an emulation bug issue.

However - although I have no problems with reporting it on mametesters, if so desired - I also seem to be struggling with articulating the issue in a way that both makes sense, and describes the issue accurately at the same time.
So some assistance with the description of the issue suitable for reporting on mametesters will be appreciated; and I can (as I already have ) provide additional recorded gameplay and a snapshot to go along with that.
