'How to' question, basic vert / horizontal .lay to force a set resolution.
#396989 - 09/03/23 01:00 AM

Hi Mr. Do and friends,
is there a simple sample .lay to just create an override artwork I can use in horizontal and vertical games to force a game resolution of say 1200x900; to display small inside my native 2560x1440 screen. Wouldn't contain any artwork elements it would just force this smaller size in a native resolution in a black background with no bezels.

Mame itself can't do this I've found w/ built-in commands. You can do it windowed with '-window -resolution 1200x900', but not full-screen. Thanks -

Try attached file:

-- black background @ 2560x1440
-- one view for horizontal, one for vertical, with your specifics above

Should get you the result you are looking for.

If you want this to apply for all single-screen games, follow the directions here:

https://mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_generic.php

for "override artwork," to make a horizontal and vertical ini file... for this, you should take the attached, and make it into two separate LAY files; one for each orientation.

And if you want to make other LAY files with different resolutions, just change your width/height on the screen to the different resolution, and adjust x/y accordingly, to recenter.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.
