I just saw this so I figured I'd pitch my question to the group.
Given that R.C. Pro-Am II was developed by RARE late in the life of the NES, given this 3D-render looking title screen, does anyone know if this is an early example of RARE using SGI workstations for modeling?

It’s all flat polys - you could do that easily on a PC or Mac by then. SGI had Gouraud shading right from the beginning (although it would have been hard to get it to look good on a NES).
