#395810 - 03/19/23 11:00 PM

hey all im trying to remember the name of a game which has water rising in it, its from late eighties i would guess but not sure.
its not rainbow islands by the way, it is horizontal orientation and i remember there are boxes in it, like it has some puzzle elements i think,
does anyone know what the game might be?

That rules out Namco Boxy Boy.

My search methods in past was use TAFA for starters…

https://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=archive&db=videodb

… even though Dan has Flyer Fever with quality flyer scans, but for newcomers the TAFA flyer
pages set up is probably easier for beginners trying to find specific game name.

https://www.flyerfever.com

In case a flyer does resemble specific game, the use IA’s feature to see if gameplay matches.

A different poster tried one of the AI chat bot and was successful. Maybe that might be an option to try.

There is also the possibility that the game is not yet emulated such a pcb has yet to be found or
if game is already supported in MAME, but not yet fully working.

Yep. I am not familiar with the game, but it appears to somewhat match as described.

Doing a bit more Stiletto style searching, here is more in case others want to view gameplay etc.

Flyers on TAFA site.

the live stream and Deco cassette topic new [Re: Haze]
#395859 - 03/27/23 07:04 AM

I was able to view it with iPhone in SoCal when I was watching around 11:30 AM PST I watched the stream starting from when Irem Oli Buchoo fixes were being mentioned. Eventually a couple of the Deco cassette titles were shown.

That part reminded me about the source file.

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/master/src/mame/dataeast/decocass.cpp

It goes back to when Nebula was first discussed last year.

Maybe ozzyguy100 was using some descriptions of alternate Deco cassettes from
here. https://m.youtube.com/@CutieQ7650/videos

The description differences that ozzyguy list would be ideal to add within the source just to show the differences of alternate versions not yet supported versus what is already supported. That way folks will know what to look for in case an alternate Deco cassette game turns up and unsure if needing to be preserved or not.
I hope his info gets supported within the source code. I am guessing maybe have the difference description added as a comment down in the entry section.

For example, the regional Rootin Tootin, not yet supported, could be an added entry as a comment until the regional version is found and supported.

https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blob/eb3...ocass.cpp#L2271

As before, ozzyguy’s info is too good to pass imo.

Very nice too see this very rare DECO Cassette game dumped & emulated (Even though it's a variant/retooled version of Highway Chase (a reworked version of Mad Alien/Mad Rider for the DECO Cassette System), there is other DECO Cassette games with different regions, there is a version of La-Pa-Pa/Rootin' Tootin' ⁅JP version⁆ where you can draw if you've a High Score (video/clip; https://youtu.be/QmDkG_cpZTQ?t=2369), Tornado (with "Tornade" typo on the title screen) ⁅JP version⁆ (clip; https://youtu.be/Iejr4M_uuMw?t=7), Pro Bowling ⁅JP version⁆ (Play as a female bowler instead of a male bowler; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqxndL0mxJI), & a variant of Lock 'n' Chase ⁅NA version⁆ where you can put more three characters in the name entry, & credit screen from the Japanese set (Early N.American set) (Clip; https://youtu.be/x4FVJqwsqpY?t=1671). Collector &/or hoarders are unaware that these DECO Cassette games (+ the other variants &/or different region sets) will become worthless if these games die /or stop working (beyond repair).
