Vectrex MAME settings bugged?
#394830 - 09/26/22 06:43 AM

So I have a MAME setup with a front end etc. When I start up a Vectrex game the vector settings are bad, as in the vector width is fat and blurred together. It also has that vector flicker effect turned up to 11. Ok fine so I go into settings and change beam width etc. Perfect. The problem is as soon as I exit and go back into the game again all of my settings are gone and it reverts to default every time. That is really irritating, I need to fiddle with the settings every time, none are saved. That is not like that in normal MAME arcade games where the settings are saved as soon as you exit the MAME menu. Is there something I am doing wrong with Vectrex or is there a bug with settings? Is there a way to set the defaults somewhere else (yes I checked MAME.INI)?

Someone can correct me if I am wrong but I think I can get you going in the right direction. In the ‘.ini’ directory are alternate .ini files. If I remember correctly one is vector. The settings for the section in the vector.ini are being used, not the settings in mame.ini.

The vector.ini settings are actually OK. For example the beam width is 1.0 in the .INI file. When I go into the tab menu in MAME it always goes to 4.0 beam width. I can set to 1.0 but when I exit and return it goes back to 4.0. It will not save settings. Seems like a bug but I don't know.
