Rapid button presses
#394670 - 08/15/22 07:46 AM

Hi all,

Noticed on a few games but particularly Hyper Sports that my MAME cab doesn't seem to register fast button presses. So in Track & Field for instance you can press the run buttons alternately quite fast but if you hammer them rapidly (as I'm used to from the arcade days 😁) you actually slow down.

Thanks

Well, with "T&F" etc. it's about speed AND rhythm, you need to alternate the button mashes.

It would also help if we knew what system you're running, Mame version, control input etc.

Hi, I bought the cabinet ready built so I've had to investigate the details...

It's Windows 7, MAME 0.210

It uses a zero delay encoder. It is usb connected.

There is definitely a slight issue because in other games which require rapid presses like Pac-Land, Toobin' and 1942 you can't get the speed I know you should.

Reading elsewhere a suggestion was to try changing the keyboard repeat delay / repeat rate?

Thanks

Well its not ancient which is usually the case but you are using a version from 2019. There have been significant improvements especially with sound since that version so you really should take the time to update to the latest version.

According to this guy, some arcade buttons cannot respond fast enough.
No doubt keyboards would be worse.

Lots of other vids showing the technique. Its amazing to witness.
