How to search for game in mame.exe
#393509 - 03/12/22 10:56 PM

Been using mameUI for ages, but have recently both moved my ROM store to a NAS (for mirrored protection) and started using SteamLink to play as it's built into my TV - so I've started looking at using 'raw' mame, as it's faster and better on the big screen.

Running mame.exe (NOT mameUI, or any other front end), there's a search option nestled tantalisingly at the top of the screen, but nothing I do seems to kick it off. Clicking on it with the mouse, trying to TAB to it... any number of attempts at hotkeys - nothing.

All the help points to using the interface when a game is loaded and running, but I can't find anything for how to get to that search field.

Total newb question, I know...

Just start typing and it will populate the search area with your keystrokes.

Aaaah.

Trying it, that works when I start MAME natively, but not when I start it through Steam.

I was using this post from Reddit:

Removing the '-keyboardprovider win32' still allows MAME to start and games to be played.

Thank you!
