Ubuntu 21.04, can't use BGFX in 0.235 but works fine in 0.234

Hello, I was writing here in hopes of finding anyone else with this similar and odd problem. I have been able to use BGFX in MAME for years now across multiple versions. I built 0.235 the other night and suddenly found that I couldn't use BGFX mode anymore. I thought maybe I screwed something up in my mame.ini, or hadn't copied the bgfx folder over correctly, but I had. So just to make sure, I went back to 0.234, and BGFX mode worked just fine, with no other changes to my laptop. Built 0.235 again, and BGFX still won't work. It just crashes. SDL and OpenGL video modes work fine, only BGFX crashes. Is there anyone else experiencing this or is it just me? Has anyone successfully run MAME 0.235 in BGFX mode on Linux? Thanks.
EDIT: Solved. The issue was leaving bgfx_backend set to "auto". The problem disappeared when I set it to "opengl".

Some bgfx tweaks were added to 0.235. Not sure if they worked out all the kinks but there have been further developments since the last release. Here's at least one of the possibly related threads: https://github.com/mamedev/mame/issues/8486. Maybe try building current master from GitHub? I'm sure it would help to know if people are still having issues.

Yes, I've synced to the very latest commit on master, and the problem still reproduces. I have now managed to reproduce this problem on two separate laptops. I will probably file an issue in github.
