Raflesiau…… you have returned and shall take your rightful place amongst the roms.
Ha….for the new batch generation of MAME users, this was an issue from nearly 20 years ago in which the first actual rom set file had been lost due to a hard disk crash from one of the TeamJapump contributors.
The actual pcb had supposedly already been sold and that meant another pcb would have to be found and roms dumped once again. In the meantime, phony created raflesiau rom sets were generated by ‘the Kidz’ in order to complete their collection.
It was a hassle since the fake rom would surface at places and be claimed as the real item. I would like to believe this old issue will finally be resolved.
It does bring back memories from Gridle’s. old MAME.net. website in which the topic was somewhat controversial back then.

Wow, has it been 20 years already? Every so often "raflsiau" still pops into my head when my brain is in screen saver mode. Seems like a lot of old loose ends are getting tied up this past year. Awesome to see.

If I recall correctly raflsiau.zip was the main culprit MAME added SHA1 hashes to romsets. It's been so long I can't be sure about that however.

I wish there no bootlegs and hacks in Arcade. I been going through trying to skip those on MAME by checking the drivers and mame.lst. lol

bootlegs and hacks have been vital to get MAME where it is today.
many encryptions on original games were only figured out due to bootleg references.
Some major arcade developers only exist because they started off making bootlegs, for example Tehkan (now Tecmo) apparently hacked up Phoenix to make Pleiades, and Toaplan's first game is said to be a hack of some Mahjong game.
Likewise many got their break making Space Invaders hacks and knock-offs (plenty of which are still yet to be dumped)

I check out the Pleiades on YouTube. I'll try it later. They didn't put a lot of stars. Just some. lol

I found these roms info on the u set. I marked the ones that is listed on the screenshot. That one isn't on the list. Maybe the person couldn't dump that one long time ago. Btw: I wrote that on there on the right side. I found the roms info from here at http://mamerominfo.retrogames.com/ romv56

Oh I saw there two listed on MAME. I got confused earlier. Probably the same without anything change in the game. They used different tools to burn those onto chips. Kind of like using different CD burners to burn the iso onto cds. Sha1 will be different.

Some long time obstacles or challenges in MAME being resolved which is good. As Haze post mentions that it is not the exact raflesiau rom set, it is a start of documenting what is being sought after.

The CRCs for the six main program ROMs do match, and those are the ones that were lost. The newly dumped sound program ROM is different from any previously known to exist.
Here's the verbatim ROM definition which Yasuhiro Ogawa sent in September 2001 (along with a note about the hard drive crash):

ah interesting, I was repeating what had been said in the shoutbox, but yes, in that case, everything that was lost has been found, with the possible addition of a different sound ROM revision (unless it's bad)
we should be able to use these EPR numbers anyway.

Yeah I posted a screenshot of the ROM's info. Matches the info he posted.
