I got tired of my default.cfg and game-specific .cfg files being overwritten or disappearing, so I wrote it into my launch script to restore them from backup before starting each game. As of .226, this stopped working; my VBA script was seemingly not executing the FileCopy command anymore. After much trial and error, I figured out that I could no longer have the default of "cfg" for cfg_directory in mame.ini; once I typed in the full path for this, everything worked fine as before. I don't know if this is a bug or not, but if you run into this, it's a fix that may help. ???

Are you using winui or file manager features of the windows debugger? Various Windows file dialogs change the working directory, and MAME uses the current working directory for relative paths.
