720 controller
#388138 - 10/09/20 03:14 AM Attachment: 7201.JPG 336 KB (1 downloads)

I just impulse bought a 720 controller ;D. Good news is it works, bad news is it's not working correctly. He spins too fast, one rotation of the controller makes the skateboard guy spin like 3 rotations or so. I have the controller set to "real" in mame and dialed down all the sensitivity settings.... Where do I go from here? Thanks in advance for any help. I even went in to the .cfg file and changed the sensitivity to .333, but that didn't work. MAME didn't recognize the fraction and set it back to 50

I saw a youtube video posted by "Wolf of Gaming" where he connected a 720 controller to an opti-pac and got it working. Does anybody in the community know who he is? I'd like to talk to him about his settings.

Thanks again!

There is a TAB > Machine Configuration > Controller Type option which allows you to select "Real" for the controller. Has that been tried?

Are you sure the controller itself is working correctly?
Its very common for these controllers to need a rebuild. In fact every machine I owned for a time needed the controller completely rebuilt to get things working like new.

It has been rebuilt, it works, just not correctly. When I was controlling the mouse cursor with it it was very smooth.....it's something else

You said it works smoothly as a mouse. I am assuming only 1 axis? If that is the case your issue may be how you are getting the analog signal into the PC. Looking at the sites that discuss this topic they reference analog X and Y. A simple test is turn real off and see if it works like a spinner. If yes then the answer may be a different interface.

Try setting up a a new copy of mame and copy over your 720 rom to the rom folder. Its possible you have an existing cfg or ini file that is getting in the way..

Another thought would be to try another title that uses that controller however I cannot think of one.

Solved! I was using the Z axis on the U-HID since X and Y were allocated to two steering wheels. I disabled the wheels and tried the Y axis...nothing at all ??? I then tried the X axis...Voila! Works perfectly! Go figure... I'll talk with Andy from Ultimarc about why it didn't work on the Z and Y axis' But for now all is good! Thanks everybody for your input, it's greatly appreciated!
