custom layout file for shifter positions - need help

Hello everybody,

I am trying to figure out how to replace the default rendered elements shifer icon with two images, one for the Hi gear position, the other for the Low gear pos.

I had success in an old MAME version (0.160) with something similar to the following (i changed directly the source code then, now I am trying to made my changes from the user-friendly "artwork" folder):

This doesnt work: I can see on screen "lowslim.png" image, but when i change gear nothing happens ("highslim.png" is not shown).

Can anyone help me?

Attached is the artwork folder, with both images for outrun and the .lay file

looks like I was declaring wrong values for "inputtag" and "inputmask".

Not sure what they actually do, but it now works. Attached is the working file
