I just read the following article:

https://www.pcgamer.com/the-arcade-version-of-quake-is-finally-playable-on-pc/

It refers to the game (decrypted version) working in MAME. Sure this must be a mistake if I read it correctly.

Hah! Our PC emulation is nowhere near ready. For one thing, our x86 dynamic recompilation still needs to be written, no? It would run at 0.0005fps without one...

And even with all this emulated, there is still that elusive Quantum3d Game Control Interface, GCI, board which according to this site, http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/divers/v5-6000/v56kgb-2.htm, uses an 80C51 MCU with an external 256KB EPROM. The "2" version of the GCI also uses that same MCU. In other words, we're stuck without a GCI ROM dump.

Here's a rather low quality image of the GCI-2 board with the 80C51: https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/image...80c1b32cdf9.jpg

The large square chip would read "N80C51GB".

TheDodgeGarage was tentatively on board with helping provide info on the PCBs in question the last time I talked to him about it. I don't want to get your hopes up though, so we'll see!

>Security Dongle Protection

*unfortunate newbie question since unfamiliar with this game and its hardware*

I thought these devices could be supported/emulated if data was dumped from one of the devices. Or are the devices these days are now extremely rare and none have been found yet?
Or are the particular dongles for this game are extremely hard to be able to dump data from?
