Emulator for Robotron that is timing correct ?
#386106 - 05/06/20 01:24 AM

There is a well know issue that Robotron is harder to play on
MAME emulation than the arcade machine because the arcade
machine game play timing bogs down when there are too many
sprites to move, redraw, and keep track of after 9 waves when
the arcade machine tries to speed up the pace.

So Tank Waves, Brain Waves, pretty much everything gets harder
and more aggressive with MAME after wave 9 than on the arcade
machine. To me (and others) the arcade machine is more fun as
a result.

This not a matter of CPU speed because slowing down the CPU
does not replicate how the game play timing changes when the
hardware is bogging down under load. I read in one place it had
to do with how the blitter chip operates under heavy load. The
Roboton Pros will understand what I am talking about.

Does anyone know if there are any emulators for Mac or PC that
play Robotron with the same game play timing as the arcade
machine ? Again this is not a CPU speed issue but instead the
fact that the emulator needs to simulate how the chips themselves
bog down under load.

Thought this was addressed and fixed some years ago. Could be misremembering.

[Update, these are probably what I'm thinking of from the .149 era]
