I'm running MAME for the first time, and I'm struggling. I've done other emulators with no problem, but the world of MAME seems to be at the limit of my capabilities.
I really just want to run Tempest with a spinner, and I haven't found a spinner-friendly version of Tempest that runs in ADVMAME3 or lr-mame.
I'm not asking for roms or even for locations of roms. I wouldn't put anyone on the spot for that, but does anyone want to weigh in on what the best rom/MAME combination is best for Tempest with spinner support?
By the way, I intend to run this in RetroPie on a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop, which has a 3Ghz processor and 4GB of RAM. And I'm using a 24" widescreen Dell LCD monitor.
Thank you so much for reading this! And if you can point me in the right direction, thank you even more!

Good luck on the RetroPie. Not supported by the Official MAME DEV team. The real MAME DEV Team that is. Use these builds for the non 64-bit computer. https://www.mamedev.org/oldrel.html Unless you have a 64-bit computer then use these. https://www.mamedev.org/release.php These will not work on RetroPie.

Thank you! I got it running reasonably well tonight. I'm using AdvanceMAME on RetroPie. The rom is Tempest Rev 3. I got it working with an Atari paddle controller. The sensitivity settings are still a mystery, but I at least got it playable. By the way, my machine is using 64-bit Lubuntu Linux. Thanks again.
