Sega Master System "Snail Maze" game

Newbie here.
I have got all my SMS roms working in mame but I can't figure out how to load the "snail maze" game that was hidden in the v1.3 bios.
Is it possible?

This works here:
C:\Emulators\Mame64>mame64.exe sms1

When I try that, it just says
mpr-10052.rom NOT FOUND
I have tried placing that file in sms.zip, sms1.zip and sms1pal.zip, but it still won't work.

You hold up and hammer buttons 1 and 2 on player 1 control pad as the system starts. It works in MAME for me.

Problems again...
I managed to get it working once, using
C:\Emulators\Mame64>mame64.exe sms1pal
But that seems to only work when I haven't previously loaded a SMS rom. If I use that after having already loaded a rom, the previous rom will load up again. For example, if I use:
C:\Emulators\Mame64>mame64.exe sms1 sonic
Sonic The Hedgehog will load as expected.
But if I quit sonic and then try it:
C:\Emulators\Mame64>mame64.exe sms1pal
Sonic The Hedgehog will load again.
