anybody play with 70s/80s jukeboxes ??
#383452 - 08/27/19 11:04 PM

Just picked up a 1978 seeburg smc1 45 jukebox.

It's the first year for the microcomputer control unit (mcu1). I've got it working but it's not parking properly. From what I can figure out it's the mcu1.

They make a service manual just for that mcu1 so I need to find one to run down schematics, I figure it's a capacitor, a bad solder joint etc on the computer board.

Anyway is there a certain place to buy capacitors etc from? Hopefully there's nothing on the board that still can't be found !!

Digikey, Mouser, or Jameco are usually pretty good for sourcing parts, from what I remember.

When you say "mcu" does that have anything to do with the "tormat"?

There was a link in the one document that referenced the tormat: http://www.west.net/%7Ejay/fmillera/fmillera/tormat.htm

I'm not a jukebox guy so I'm just guessing.

Is it possible that the tormat was replaced by a more modern mcu?

Correct, the mcu replaced the tormat, in fact I believe this is the first model without a tormat.

Seeburg put out a manual called "microcomputer control system manual" that covers only the mcu.

The mcu until actually contains three computer boards stacked on top of each other, the top one controls the money counter side, as in it controls how much credit is given when money is inserted. You actually change that board to raise or lower the price.

Don't know on the middle board but the bottom board controls the digital readout for selection playing, selection chosen and credits left and keyboard punch buttons.

My readout isn't working and the record cartridge isn't clearing when it gets to the end of its travel so it starts bouncing off of the end stops.

Hoping it's something simple,, don't see really anything visually that sticks out, but since the keyboard works great I'm hoping there is a power feed line somewhere that's causing the problem.

Any pictures of the MCU or other mechanisms?

No but I could get some, gotta the readout working so now everything works but the parking/resetting problem.

Next thing is to find some Ac/dc 45 records for it!

Did get a mcu manual but I don't understand a lot of it. Readouts on the circuits.

I muddled my way thru fixing a old Pepsi pop machine so I'll try the same technique here

I have the 'rare' Da Vinci (1979) that uses the same MPU, curious what you mean by parking/resetting. It scans back and forth but never picks up a record? Please describe activity. I also have a 1977 Topaz which uses the rare Red Box system which unlike previous iterations has no customs and I've been able to repair and get running.

No it does fine to play a record, what happens is once it plays a record and puts it away and goes over to either side to park and wait until another selection is chosen it doesn't stop, it bounces back and forth off of the stops. So instead of going over next to the bump stop and stopping it just bounces off it.

It has the leaf switches to signal the end of travel and they seem complete and tried cleaning them but changed nothing.

I figure either the switch is bad or the main computer board is bad and not processing the switch making contacts.
