JALECO's SAINT DRAGON US SIDE ART Available - RARE!!
#382395 - 05/08/19 02:52 PM

I've come across a Jaleco Saint Dragon side art in pretty good shape on eBay for a very reasonable price ($20) but the seller won't ship it to Brazil so I cannot buy and scan it myself. Here's the link to the artwork:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/333157559634?ul_noapp=true

So I would like to know if someone here would like to have it scanned as well, since this piece of art is EXTREMELY RARE!! If we do not preserve it now, it may be lost forever. And I mean it because I've tracking down this one piece of sideart for ages.

If someone here lives in the U.S. and would be able to help me out, please answer here or send me a PM ASAP.

Thanks

I can get it for you and have it scanned.
Would you reimburse me via paypal, applepay, Venmo or whatever?
I can also mail it out to you want it after scanning.

You buy it, that way it initially ships to you for scanning.

I'll reimburse you via PayPal.

RC has been helpful more than a few times over the years... I'll cover him on this one.

Was there anything else desired from this seller?
Might not be to late to package things together.

Thank you very much people!! You guys are the best!

I took a quick look at the seller's other items but he has tons of things there, it would take some time to check everything.

Side art arrived today safe.
I’ll try to get it scanned this week.
It’s got a little damaged upper left corner which was visible on ebay so hopefully someone here is biting at the bit to do the cleanup.
Also, how will this be incorporated into Mame?
Maybe a custom bezel?

Very cool!!

Yes, I saw that. But at least the damage seems to be in a place that is not graphically intense, I suppose it won't be that difficult to restore, if someone skilled put the hands on it at some point.

This game has a dedicated bezel already, I did the scan/stitching myself and sent it to Mr.DO together with the Guardians Of The Hood bezel, but it also has to be cleaned by someone skilled. Since the WIP page has no updates for quite some time now, this bezel is not there yet.

Side arts do not appear during emulation (yet), the main purpose of having it scanned is preservation of the original artwork.

Regarding the scan: since the art seems to have some air bubbles inside, I would suggest you to take off the artwork from the original sticker and paste it onto a clean/plain/thicker sheet of paper to make the art surface as smooth as possible, it will allow a better scan. I used this technique to scan my Pit-Fighter/Jail Break/Guardians Of The Hood sidearts. But it is a suggestion only, if you have a better technique, do it your way

It might eventually appear in a 3dArcade cabinet if it's available.

I thought the same after my last post, but the 3d frontend is so outdated/discontinued that I didn't mention it here. I hope that they improve that frontend though because the idea is kinda cool.

This reminds me...

I need to copy the stuff from the BYOAC/CAG drive to the FTP drive, so you can get the good versions of these files... instead of the JPG versions from arcadeartwork.org

Note that a~a~.org is simply a repository of artwork found elsewhere on the internet, just copied to his site, with no credit where the original images came from... I have yet to find anything original and exclusively there (if there is, please someone point me to it).

Everything in the "Artwork - Ultra High Quality" section is from the CAG collection, or direct from the MAME Artwork site... but again, everything is then converted from TIF/PSD/PNG to JPG, so all files there have lost quality before you even start.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

Having the original scans (no jpg compression) on your shared drive would be great!

Also, the people that originally provided the files and did all the work of scanning absolutely deserve credit.

I agree! Having access to the raw scans of these artworks would be great. I had a copy of that St.Dragon retouched marquee file as well but your uploaded .png file is larger/better than my jpeg, so I've replaced my old .jpeg with this new .png file you posted here. Thanks a lot man! I also have a copy of the St. Dragon scanned marquee from CAG, but the original scan I downloaded from there is in jpeg format, so I guess I have the lo-res version too :/
