Universal Mame slider settings?
#381966 - 04/15/19 01:54 PM

I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to using HLSL in Mame even though I've been using Mame for years.

I've just got the HLSL settings looking nice on my 4:3 monitor. Unfortuanately vertical games have the very top and bottom cut off and it bugs me a bit. It's just where the "HIGH SCORE" and "CREDITS" usually go on games like Pacman.

I can get round this by adjusting the sliders for Vertical and Horizontal stretch to 0.95 instead of 1.0. I'm quite happy for all games, vertical and horizontal to have that setting. But I don't know where that would be in Mame.ini. Or even if it is in there.

At the moment I can adjust each game one by one and it does at least save it in the game.cfg file. So I don't have to do it each time I load that particular game.

Any help is much appreciated!

You should make an .ini file with the desired hlsl setting for the vertical games, and other for the horizontal, but actually I don't know if you can do that. You can do specific settings for arcade, console or computer, look at the mame documentation, maybe you can create an vertical.ini.

Oh yeah I know how to creat separate vertical and horizontal ini files. But the specific change of the V and H stretch within Mame is what I'm after.

Sorry didn't understand you the first time. Seems those values are saved only in the cfg file

This may be caused by MAME automatically cropping the screen in arcade games and certain home systems, rather than emulating the real hardware's full output (I assume it's going to be even more noticeable when outputting to TVs).

I think that a universal solution to this kind of problems could be to add an overscan slider which would allow to display everything (even the black borders which are actually output by systems such as the SNES), for cases like this.
