MSI Afterburner affecting Mame?
#381602 - 03/17/19 02:34 PM

Hi,

So after struggling with issues in ensuring that when quitting a game it didn't freeze mame completely, I did some more digging and it seems that rather than it potentially being the latest nvidia drivers, I read somewhere that someone noted Afterburner can cause issues. I have since closed both Afterburner and Riva Tuner and can confirm for me at least, this seems to be what was causing the issue!!

Just wished to share this just in case anyone else was having this issue!?

Many thanks!!!

You need to update Afterburner to latest version and don't forget to update RivaTuner Statistics Server to latest version so you can use nVidia drivers v400.
I have a RTX 2080 with drivers v416.81 and don't have problems is AB + RivaTuner latest builds.
Make sure you "reset the cache" in RivaTuner app after updating.

Hi Ciro,

I have now done as you suggested, and I have both the latest afterburner installed 4.6.0 (07/03/2019) and the latest version of RivaTuner 7.2.2. I have clicked on the only RivaTuner reset button I could find and again, if I leave both of them open, Mame will crash upon exiting game? I have made sure that my drivers are upto date and they are 419.35 GTX 1080 Windows 10 64 Bit.

I am at a loss as again when they are closed, Mame runs perfectly and all games close without issue back to the GUI and games list!?

I am at a loss as to what else to do, other than to ensure that both programs are closed before running Mame?

Many thanks.

If the programs conflict with MAME then close the programs.

MAME can't really cater for broken behaviour of other software that is clearly overly invasive and interfering with normal operation of the system.

Moreover, MAME isn't doing anything the least bit tricky with D3D so if it fails with MAME it's failing with other stuff too.

Sometimes I use Afterburner with MAME. No problems here, but I'm on Win7 and latest Afterburner + RivaTuner versions.
