Means absolutely nothing...

Except for the english word "gum" which kind of integrated french language because of "chewing gum".

"Attendez gum" means "Wait for gum", which means herrr....

... perhaps some kind of automated translation that failed badly. (the first part of the sentence, said in a very bad french would imply this).

except if "Gum" is a name or an acronym.

There's also that Galaxian based Slot Machine called 'Royal Gum'

as well as Chewing Gum
http://www.citylan.it/wiki/index.php/Chewing_Gum
and Lady Gum
http://www.citylan.it/wiki/index.php/Lady_Gum

maybe it's just one of those weird things like the 'Toote' thing is on the Belgium horse racing games, which apparently has no actual meaning either..

none of these games have anything actually gum related in them.

Not english here.

Seems to happens when insert a coin, and hit some unknown error.

Attendez GUM is "wait for..." What?
Yap, maybe it's an acronym.

Hope someone can shed some light.

Was just saying that "gum" is now a french word like "week-end", "parking", "stop", etc...

But it does have a meaning - "toote" in Dutch/Flemish is an appropriation of the English "tote", the abbreviation for "totalisator", as in tote board. (The "oo" in Dutch/Flemish as a "long O" sound.)

Ah, fair enough, I was only reposting what one of the Belgian posters who dumped one of them had said. "The name has no meaning to us either" or something along those lines.

Actually, gum is related to slot machines. I read that the first slot machine was invented by the Bell Fruit Chewing Gum company. It had fruit symbols on it, and paid out packs of chewing gum.

that actually has some sense to it.. especially if these are early games..

Could it be that the machine is set to operator payout only(or no credits at all)? As in, call the attendant for your gum?

Or a hopper jam/empty? Or have you found those already?

Pessimist: Oh, this can't get any worse!
Optimist: Yes, it can!

IIRC I read those strings in the Lady Gum ROMs, when I did the skeleton driver.

Didn't see this one... Also looks so dark too.
You're right. It's also calling (appeler) Gerant (manager) "Gum".

Will see if we can guess wth is the term.

This is a very rare 8-bit hardware. 1987, and the communications/device are I2C.

Robbie.

Indeed, even the first line is wrong, it should be "appelez l'operateur" (imperative tense). Even if they meant it in the present tense, which would be grammatically incorrect, it would be "appelle".

That was my guess as well.

Hi Robbie,

Sorry, I just see your message now.
A bit late maybe, but best wishes for the new year!

CALL OPERATOR (OR ATTENDANT)
WAIT FOR GUM?

strange, it's not a french word, maybe chewing gum?
while waiting?
it doesn't mean anything if you ask me.
you get this message in trying to emulate a romset?

Another question, new mame version states that the artistocrat mkV romsets should work (by heihachi_73) but I still get the famous memory errors, eproms changed.

Cheers

regarding aristmk5 games: are you initializing them following the instructions at the top of the driver?

Memory Error / Game EPROMs Changed is what the games display on the first boot prior to being set up, as the machine thinks the ROMs have just been installed; the games are waiting to be set up so they can be played. This reflects a real machine where the EPROMs have just been changed over. Normally the machine setup is not seen in a venue or casino as it is normally done after hours or with a portion of the gaming floor blocked off, therefore most people are used to only seeing the machines waiting to take their money.

The memory error on boot had nothing to do with the "not working" status of the games - the current non-working games are listed as such as they either hang when playing (most newer NSW games) or have way too many coin diverter errors (as with the entire USA platform). The "working" games were actually working since at least 0.182(?) but the status was never changed (the emulation hasn't really changed much since then, the changes have mostly been cosmetic and/or adding new dumps).

The non-working NSW and Venezuelan games (excluding the bad dumps) can still be played in the same way but need a hit of F3 every so often to keep playing. The Venezuelan games also need a bill acceptor emulated otherwise they will keep throwing an error on boot (which can be bypassed by pressing V, assuming they have already been set up).

Once the games have been set up the only message on boot should be Watchdog Reset (and/or any doors open or closed if applicable, and/or any spin or free game/bonus that hadn't finished), which is a harmless message which will disappear after playing (the machine actually thinks that the game randomly rebooted rather than being powered off and back on). Currently there is no power loss signal emulated in the MK5 driver which is why it shows Watchdog Reset instead of Power Up, but even if it could be implemented, pressing Esc to close MAME would bypass the message unless a power down "input" was done beforehand.
