Have any details? If it's a Japanese plug and play (one by Epoch or the like) then yeah there's quite a high chance of it being XaviX or Super XaviX. There are at least 100 Japanese things using the tech, maybe more, we have no source for the majority of them. There are Chinese / Korean versions of some of the plug and play gimmick devices too which clearly used different ROM as there's no support for such languages in the ones we have.

I haven't tested it yet, but it seems to be this same item (or at least, it's the same outer shell):

The graphics on the box look way too colorful to be Famiclone-based, and it also runs off batteries. I'll have more info later in the year.
And like I did the last time I sent something in, anyone who wishes to dump this can have it for the cost of shipping.

the biggest tell would be if it has a XaviX logo somewhere on startup. All the XaviX stuff we've seen does, as I think it was part of the licensing agreement.
If it doesn't it might be the based on the 'Elan' tech or the unSP stuff like the Vii. Also keep in mind that the later Famiclone stuff is perfectly capable of 256 colour tiles, full bitmap layers etc. so don't rule it out. We have information saying that some of them even have built in sub-cpus clocked at 4-5x the usual rate (with the possibility of internal ROM) even the Famiclones evolved quite a bit.
Looking at the box picture it looks a lot like the 'mame64 dgun2500' thing (although that has multiple games)

![](http://mamedev.emulab.it/haze/pics2018/dgun2500_2.png)
(note, that one IS a famiclone) As well as the Sports games it also contains a sub-xx-in-1 thing

again, fairly colourful.
a different famiclone (the Samurai 60) makes good use of colour too so don't rule out Famiclone based on colour use (or even sound, most of them have PCM sound)
