Hi there,
It might sound strange, but I was wondering: would the Philips PM5544 test pattern generator emulable in some way in MAME ?
Schematics are available, the device itself has some roms etc...
That would be so useful to calibrate MAME when running on a CRT arcade monitor IMHO

not such a strange question, and if it has a CPU and ROMs, then yes, it's a MAME target like anything else.
what you might find tho, is rather than driving the parameters of the CRT attached to the PC, it will be driving the parameters of the emulated screen, which might not translate as directly as you're expecting.

Out of curiosity, where are the ROMs and schematics available for the PM5544? Because I'll be damned if I can find either, and it sounds right up my alley in terms of something I wouldn't mind trying to emulate.
