adding scanlines on mame

hi all
there used to be a setting in a front end of mame i used to use,you just went into video settings and add horizontal scanlines .
is there a way to add it now on later versions of mame
as i cant seem to see a setting for it
just using a downloaded version of mame from the website

I think what you are looking for is the -effect command. -effect (name of .png fle in artwork) will allow a number of different look alike effects on the cheap.
Example:
mame64 pacman -effect scanlines
You can also edit your .ini and add the name of the .png where it has the line "effect"
