Dumping Greenhouse
#377188 - 06/26/18 12:38 PM

So I have an original 2 screen Game & Watch of Greenhouse. It's in terrible nick, but still works. I was wondering if there was someone I could send it to, to get the LCD scanned and the ROM dumped. As far as I can tell, this hasn't yet been done.

It'd be nice to get it back in one piece at the end, but if I don't, well, such is life.

Anyone know who I should be talking to?

It's a destructive process in order to dump the ROM, they don't work afterwards I'm afraid. For the rest, see other reply.

MooglyGuy bought a lot of LCD games a few months ago, in the hope of getting them dumped and emulated by Sean Riddle and me. Green House is among them

SM510(pretty sure Green House has this MCU) with necessary pins exposed can be dumped electronically. This is the case for G&W games with SM510, they have a nice chip package instead of epoxy blob.

Cheers!
I'll hold this one "in reserve" then. It's always fun thrashing the score my kids can get on this. Muscle memory still in place after 30 years.

There's more where that came from, too. There's now a person right here in Sweden who's equipped to dump Game & Watch titles that don't need decapping, so as soon as I get paid I'm going to be sending over the dumpable ones that I have.

Yep. Kudos in arranging handheld organizational purchase effort in getting some of those saved in time since some of them probably won't be in working shape in a another decade or two.

approximate G & W lists *final edit?* new [Re: Cheshire Noir]
#379401 - 11/06/18 10:49 PM

Although my era of handheld games is the led versions of Mattel Electronics, I was curious what needed to be emulated with Nintendo G and W handhelds and why this post was updated along the way for last few years. This part of the preservation went on for about five years. Impressed with the efforts by the various folks involved in getting this just about completed.

Info from page on Rik's web site:

http://www.handheldmuseum.com/

http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Nintendo/index.html

Assuming Rik's web site has complete list of G&W handhelds, this is supposedly of what still remains although it may be off by a couple items and hard to say if any of the remaining entries will be searched for or worked on now that almost everything is completed.

Balloon Fight (Crystal Screen)
Judge (bug fix release)
Popeye (Tabletop)
Punch-Out (Vs Series)
Snoopy (Tabletop)
Super Mario Brothers Mario's Revenge
Super Mario Brothers Shoot & Score
Super Mario Brothers (Promotional game)
Super Mario Brothers (Crystal Screen)
Tennis

Supposed remaining Game & Watch type hardware list *edited for 2021* new [Re: simzy]
#382465 - 05/15/19 12:50 AM

>Have you seen this collector's guide?

I haven't seen that site before.

Reason why doing updates is observing what else is left to do regarding the various lcd games that use same mcu hardware. I did an older post for Tiger games since there were non-stop loads of Tiger games being supported.

Aside from the non- Game & Watch hardware… (links below)

Konami Handheld
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Konami/index.html

Tiger
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tiger/index.html

Tronica
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Tronica/index.html

…the wanted list of G&W type hardware seems to be Tronica Goal Keeper and
some remaining Elektronica G&W type hardware games. Fortunately most of the G&W type
hardware games are now preserved.

Bassmate Computer (c)1984 Telko / Nintendo (Game & Watch related)

The Telko Bassmate Computer isn't a Game, but it was manufactured by Nintendo, and it's
basically a Multi-Screen Game & Watch unit, using the exact same internal tech and style
of case as found on many of the popular games. Thanks to Algestam for the emulation, Mr.
Do for sourcing the unit, and DarthMarino for the artwork.

Looks good. Can you stomach being able to put up with doing artwork for another three of them down the road if any of the others are found later? *partly kidding*

I'm not sure if I'll have the motivation. This at least is part of Nintendo's history and a fun way to cap off the G&W project. The later units are similar so maybe something can be thrown together quickly.

I should also mention that I will have the artwork default with the Telko logo since that is apparently the company that worked with Nintendo to make this. They had a licensing deal with KMV and Probe 2000 (the unit being worked on now) so I'll have options with those logos available as well.

Don't worry... after this one, you're done.

The other three units are not produced by Nintendo, are powered by a completely different chipset, and have zero relation to G&W.

They are probably "some type" of dumpable thing that can be added to MAME, but it won't be related to G&W.

RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.

If MCU is accessible/readable for the other three products, may it be nothing more complicated than a Sharp SM511 or Sharp SM512.

Aside from the Nintendo list, everything else was a hassle for Sean to put up with.

Konami
Sharp SM510 under epoxy
Sharp SM511 under epoxy

Tiger

VTech Electronic

Nintendo G&W touchups *edited* new [Re: Cheshire Noir]
#389749 - 01/29/21 02:27 AM

Bringing back the old thread one more time since Nintendo G&W fixes are ongoing here and there.

The display for G&W Egg has been improved. The screen has been digitized from an actual game unit.

Artwork for the game also updated to match with recent updates.
