Suggestion for new computer speakers?
#377007 - 06/19/18 06:56 AM Attachment: speakers.jpg 718 KB (0 downloads)

My Creative Inspire T6100 speakers have slowly been getting quieter over the last couple years. I've tried to open them up to get at the caps to see if any need replacing, but I can't figure it out- I can unscrew the main panel, but it only comes out about a cm and that's it. May not be worth it anyway. I can see the board by looking in the cone- lots of caps, covered with glue...

So- does anyone know if any of the cheaper offerings on Amazon worth it (Logitech Z313 or Z323, Cyber Acoustics CA-3602FFP, Creative T6300- all are about 4/5 stars), or do any of you have other recommendations? Should I go with something USB to bypass my computer's Realtek HD internal sound? Not sure if I need to go with another 5.1 setup, I mostly just used stereo sound. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

Not what you're asking but likely you'd need to remove the sub volume cap, remove the nut on the potentiometer and the screw between the RCA jacks and you might free the rear panel. Just FYI

Actually, I really would rather repair them if it's in my power to do so, so trying to get me inside the box does help. I did try that screw and unfortunately it didn't help at all. As for the volume control, that comes out with the panel (as far as it goes) and in fact everything seems to be attached to the panel and starts sliding with it. I did pull the knob off though and it looks like I need to find a socket wrench the right size as the nut is recessed.

At the bottom there are four screws as well, but oddly enough they just spin like they aren't attached to anything. They are not at the corners, but in a small area like they are holding something specific. They don't loosen at all and they don't fall out.

I wonder if the board iss getting caught on the sub speaker? There is cloth material around the speaker, but I did try to feel around for any screws underneath. Unfortunately I didn't feel anything.
