Exotic refresh rates over HDMI
#375223 - 03/30/18 02:19 PM

Hello,

I was wondering whether MAME could output non-standard refresh rates raw over HDMI, letting a modern TV process the signal and alleviate tearing through its onboard motion smoothing system, displaying a final 120Hz stream.
I would imagine this would create input lag, but I would accept this drawback if animation / scrolling stayed solid.

Sorry if the question was asked before or if I'm misunderstanding something fundamental !

Thanks for any feedback, experience etc !

If by "raw" you mean bypassing your video card drivers and OS, no.

MAME can use any resolution and refresh rate that your video card drivers make available to the OS.

If you can't go past 60Hz in your video card drivers control panel you can try something like this: https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

If you have an Nvidia card you can try EVGA's PrecisionX utility, there's a pixel-something (pixel clock? IDK) slider in there somewhere.
