MAMEPlus alternative in 2018?

Hey all,
Long time since I posted here but looking for a bit of advice on a viable modern replacement for MAMEPlus.
Basically, I am fond of the upscaling features in this build of MAME. 2xsai etc.
However, MAMEPlus hasn't been updated for a few years now.
Is there any up to date alternative with the same upscaling features that anyone is aware of?

No I never have. I've seen it mentioned and heard of it used but thought it was more for the purpose of producing raster fx etc rather than upscaling.

no, if you want modern MAME to look like ass then the option is there for you
eg
mame64 pacman -video bgfx -bgfx_screen_chains super-xbr-6p
mame64 pacman -video bgfx -bgfx_screen_chains hq4x
note, the way many of these filters work is inherently incompatible with how games generate video signals, so there's no guarantee it will work in all cases (as somebody already noted, you're not going to want to be using it with SNES in MAME as the shader doesn't understand the pixel doubling properly) and likewise there's no guarantee it will stay around forever either, but yes, it works like that out the box.
the proper CRT shaders are also there, and do the games much more justice
mame64 pacman -video bgfx -bgfx_screen_chains crt-geom-deluxe

After JD added bgfx he went and ported some of the "upscaling" filters that people sometimes like. I'm not sure they all produce correct output, but they're there. You might like them.

Tom, if you run with -video bgfx you can then TAB into slider controls and if you're running just one display find the option window 0, Screen 0 Effect:
You can use the left and right keyboard arrows to cycle through different chains in real-time and perhaps what's defaulted there can give you a look that you're interested in.
