G-Sync/FreeSync & MAME

Maybe an odd question but I've not seen it asked yet:
How does MAME handle using either of them? Is it just automatically done when run or do you trigger it through MAME or other games & such?
I haven't upgraded video cards or monitors lately so I have not looked into it very much or even have any ideas on using either yet. Is 1 superior to the other? Usually in these 2 format type kind of wars 1 of them outdoes the other after a couple years but I don't really see either taking the lead so far...Is it pretty much still "I'm an Nvidia guy I like G-Sync!" deal & then find a monitor manufacturer you like that implements your tech into their screens?
Just wondering since I'm going to need to upgrade eventually.
TIA for the info gang...

I can't speak for FreeSync but I've used G-Sync for a couple of years now. I own an Acer Predator XB271HU and am really happy with it.
When it comes to MAME everything is automatic and buttery smooth. I don't even need to enable waitvsync or syncrefresh
The stand itself has swivel, pivot, and tilt options. It's extremely simple with minimal effort to change it from a horizontal orientation to a vertical one for playing those games or Visual Pinball.
Best money I've ever spent.
Looking forward to when 4K G-Sync HDR becomes available.

I need something better than what I have. The one I'm using I have to turn on the waitvsync and syncrefresh. But I can't use those options on some of the Nintendo arcade games. For example dkong and popeye doesn't like those options on. Causing those games to hick ups and pops every few or more seconds. Have something to do with the sound rate dropping or something. Does that on all of my computers.
By the way. The dsound doesn't fix that issue anymore with those options enabled. Unless I put it into the wrong place.
# # OSD SOUND OPTIONS # sound dsound audio_latency 2
Just need a new screen that have a better refreshment and that turns. I can't pay over $150 for one. But if the feet on the screen can be remove then that will do as well. So I can flip the screen onto it side.
Edit: Maybe I should get this. https://www.amazon.com/1080p-Gaming-LED-...+1080p+FreeSync for $300.

Yes, dkong is 60.606061 Hz which is probably a nightmare if you use a standard display.
If you decide to buy that ASUS you need to make sure your AMD video card is FreeSync compatible and has DisplayPort connection on it. With G-Sync HDMI only is not good enough and won't give you the benefit of variable RR.

This it? I had to move most of my stuff so I can get to it. The other one just a HDMI slot.
There is also two old computer screen slots as well. Look different on these two.

Yes that's a DisplayPort. Your card should be FreeSync capable. Exactly what card do you have? What does GPU-Z say that it is?

I had to fix one of my usb hard drive. Somehow I got it move onto another usb port that doesn't support the boot. lt took me a while to find the right usb port.
At first I thought the plug died. I keep swapping plugs around. Next I thought the usb wire died. lol
I had a few death screens.
Anyway I got the issues fix.
Thinking about using the old ASUS screen on one of the Chromebook that I have.

I got it from Fry's. Took the guy a while to find a good one. Poor guy. He sweated to death looking. At first he was trying get me to buy the 60hz. I said nope to him. I told him to search for a 144hz alone. Cost more there than it does from the Amazon. Well worth it.
But I did corrupted my Windows somehow. I couldn't refresh it and get it fix. I got it re-installed. Only problem that I have after re-install is the Microsoft Edge not working right. I re-install it twice just to make sure. I download a browser from the Microsoft store and then download the Firefox by using that.
I have to say that is Microsoft fault for release bugs for the Microsoft Edge. They probably won't fix it. lol

Nice Dull! Hope you really enjoy it!
Now if I could just find a reasonably priced decent one around here with G-Sync I'd be set too!
All my hardware is nvidia but it seems that those monitors are a little pricier & harder to find...
I'll keep looking though...
BTW: Thanks for the help guys!

This has a reason. G-Sync is a industry standard, is defined and has strict hardware rules. Manufacturers need to buy a license for a G-Sync brand.
Free Sync has no tight rules and because of this, many Free Sync monitors differ heavily in specifications from monitor to monitor.
Go with quality. Nvidia invented G-Sync and is always ahead with new features (Cuda, G-Sync etc.). What did ATI invented first, in the past decade? I think there is not a single feature, that makes you go "wow" (if there is any).

I'm pissed about Microsoft updated AMD-Catalyst-15.4.1-Win8.1-Win7-May8 correct driver to the newer one. Why the hell they do that shit on auto updates? Is there away to turn that part of the updates off? Just the display driver part.
Edit: I might doing something wrong...

Perhaps a quick google for your Windows version can help here.

Gsync is not an industry standard, it's an nvidia standard. The industry standard is HDMI 2.0 VRR which is already supported on Xbox One X. It's a sort of evolved version of VESA adaptive sync. AMD/ATI chips had a version of this tech 3 generations before nvidia marketed Gsync, although it was originally designed as a power saving technique for laptops(hence AMD's first demo after Gsync launch was using a laptop with the right panel type).
As for things AMD/ATI did first recently, they made the first low level graphics API(Mantle) which became the basis for the industry standard Vulkan API. AMD codeveloped GDDR5 memory and HBM memory, of which nvidia uses both.

Not worrying about it now. I need a better graphics card that support Free Sync and GP. This card only have the GP support. When they release these older cards they didn't make the Free Sync support at the time when they added the GP support onto the older cards. Seem silly. That is their fault for putting these cards out too early.
I don't know why iBuyPower didn't catch this when they added these older card to their machines. I paid over $1,000 for this machine. This is before they replace these machines for the better machines to sell about the same price. Maybe my machine is one of those recall? I don't know.
