Honestly, 0.193 was a nice update to end the year. I really liked on how Cart Fury and Road Burners now fully boot and work 100% with sound. I honestly think they should be promoted to working for I haven't found any known issues in both games.

As for 2018 I would like to see the rest of the Atari/Midway Vegas library playable fully playable. If possible, I'd like to see the Midway Quicksilver/Graphite games at least boot.

yeah, I didn't find any issue with those two in my testing either

I think the new beatmania stuff was promoted prematurely however, it can crash quite often / easily, appears to drift out of sync over the course of the songs, and without the videos seems more incomplete than just 'imperfect graphics' IMHO.

sometimes these things happen.

HDR will make it easier to set up certain CRT effects that need to show whites that are whiter than 'white'.

A lot of things in HLSL not wholly related to CRTs I should try to decouple from the shader, but that will have to come later.

Resurrecting this old 2017 thread for the hell of it.

Actually because Frank Palazzolo achieved the impossible that was never expected and now the game is in working shape although without audio, but that is better than a game that is not in working condition in MAME.

m10: Add support for missing greenber ROM gb7

Machines promoted to working

Green Beret (Irem) [Frank Palazzolo]

src/mame/drivers/m10.cpp

GAME( 1980, greenber, 0, m15, greenber, m10_state, empty_init, ROT270, "Irem", "Green Beret (Irem)", MACHINE_NO_SOUND | MACHINE_IMPERFECT_COLORS | MACHINE_SUPPORTS_SAVE )

I never saw nor played actual game way back then, but the game had been mentioned on occasion on forums over the past 20 years so I was curious what the game play looks like.

Read Haze's tweets about Irem Green Beret and watch videoclip of gameplay.

Frank Palazzolo discovered that he had a PCB of IREM's 1980 Green Beret in his basement. The MAME set has had a bad ROM since it was added around 20 years ago (board, like pretty much all early IREM was faulty) I'd given up hope of another being found.

Frank Palazzolo discovered that he had a copy of IREM's Green Beret in his basement with a different bad ROM to the MAME set. Dumping means a complete set now exists. I'd actually given up any hope of this one turning up due to it sharing its name with the much more common and popular Konami title from 5 years later; everybody I'd tracked down with one thought it was just a broken bootleg board of the Konami game and had scrapped it (these early IREM PCBs are notorious for using ROMs that fail, there's a high chance that every single one has at least one bad / partially bad ROM at this point) No sound yet as it's all discrete like so many early games, but Frank said he'd trace out the sound circuits and record some samples.

Whenever a game shares its name with a much more popular game locating it is difficult, and misidentification happens far too often. Combine that with the high failure rate of the ROMs IREM used in the early 80s and the situation was dire. We're very, very lucky here.

I am looking forward to what Frank details regarding the discrete/analog audio sound effects that Irem Green Beret generates and will be curious what the audio sounds are like.
