Help please returning Mame enthusiast faces challenge

Hi all, I am an old arcade nut, and for a while dabbled with mame (Mame32 32.60 was last version I used) and had accumulated a number of ROMs that I used with the emulator.
life happened and I just recently got back into it and dusted off the old disk archives. The big issue I have is, with Mame64 I get the error "The Game is missing one or more of the required ROM or CHD files"
Now, I'm not completely daft, and I copied all the roms into the appropriate sub-folders and went into the Configure Directories options and verified the roms directory -- however I literally get that error for every single game.
I tried the old 32.60 version and it still works fine, but odd that none of the newer versions seem to.
Am I missing something glaringly obvious, or what changed between these versions that my ROMS work in one but not any of the new ones ?
Any and all Help appreciated

Renaming and redumps over the years.
You will need a tool. https://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/
What this does is rebuilding the zips and removing the non needed roms. This will let you know what is missing from the sets.
Please read on how to use it. https://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/#docs There some links listed there.
There is a forum. https://www.emulab.it/forum/index.php?board=6.0

Thank you,
so it appears the change in the encryption modules means the ROM format changes
a big help was the mame -verifyroms options, which clearly spelled out the missing prom files that did not appear in my ZIPs
it also made it easy to search and find the correct versions using the prom file names
I downloaded some new roms and they work !!
another posted just posted a possible conversion tool I will look at next
Thank you to both of you !!
