Another well done video clip.

Too bad some of the handheld (G & W games etc) will have a different look once the artwork portion is completed. Maybe redoing the video for some of the G&W hardware at a later time when artwork is completed for some those games? Some of them look bad when missing the artwork.

My guess is the 'handheld games gang' will probably be on the G&W artwork for some time in which other handheld games will be sitting in the corner waiting to be emulated. :-)

yeah, I'd definitely suggest trying to source background graphics for these before recording them at least in cases like this.

might also be worth considering the general state of some games too, in certain cases noteworthy improvements are made to drivers which can make a big difference, of course this is more difficult to track (I'm tempted to say it's worth having a whatsnew section listing things that have had significant improvements too, for example in the latest release there are definitely improvements to the way Rumba Lumber plays due to having the proper MCU dump)

There's also the Dragon Plus which was promoted to working (no other emulator supports it) in this release and not included in the video. I feel many of the computer improvements are overlooked, the Z88, Archimedes, Communicator have all seen major improvements recently and though still marked as not working are complete enough to be usable and included.
If you don't know how to use a machine that's been improved then reach out to a dev for guidance.

The problem is it takes time to research such things, and if you're doing a quick video, where you've not even got time to look for background files for handhelds then you're probably not going to have time to learn those things either.

Really in cases like this the devs doing the work need to be active in writing blog updates and the like demonstrating how the systems work, relying on things like the software lists to ensure that users are going to have easy enough access to any materials mentioned.

I struggled to include a lot of the computer stuff in the yearly writeups for similar reasons, ideally there would be a part of mamedev.org dedicated to this kind of thing, posts from developers promoting the emulation of the systems etc. for easy reference.

We've made strides recently, not too long ago the entirety of the MESS content was being overlooked, now people are noticing it, but only really focusing on the things they know how to use. It's some steps forward, but it does need the dev involvement for the more complex cases. There are a few people still being disruptive and stripping it all out, but I guess you're always going to have a few standing in the way of progress, however good promotion of the work being done seems to be changing the opinion of parts of that group too.

What used the Dragon Plus?

Yeah, I understand the problems for the video maker. I could be tempted to promote such machines on the official forums with a basic write up of how to get something interesting out of them.

It's the Dragon 64 Plus, essentially an add-on board for the Dragon 64 providing more RAM and an 80 column display output for running FLEX, OS-9, etc. The easiest way to see it in action is to load system200c from the softlist, and type BOOT. If BOOT fails (due to issue with DOS cartridge) then retype until it boots!

If you have to repeatedly type BOOT until it actually boots that doesn't really sound like it works properly yet to me.

Unfortunately this is the type of thing that drives people away from emulators, when claims about something working are made only for the end user to feel they were made prematurely. It results in people feeling like our word can't be trusted.

Unless of course the original hardware was unreliable in the same way, then we just have to provide a warning saying that's how it was.
