Does it have "Popcorn" music like the other versions do?

For 99.9% of dumps I announce here I haven't actually played them until after they are in a mame release so I don't know specific stuff like this.

It's just the encrypted SEGA_315_5010 Z80 CPU that is used on several of the Pengo sets already isn't it?

Probably, he used a question mark so maybe it is just that we haven't seen a Bally version with protection before.

I can send you the roms in a private message now if you want to find difference in the versions. I won't be researching them myself.

It has some unique ROMs, but it's the same encrypted CPU and the same copyright. I believe it's a Sega board with an additional Bally sticker applied as a distributor.

You've hit it. The "N.E." on the sticker gives it away (Bally Northeast). They named their distribution outlets by location. We had a Bally Midwest outlet here in GR MI up until 1990 or so...

what's interesting is that the graphic roms have the official sega part numbers, but the program roms simply have a date.
could be that they were trying out new code modifications for the US release, or Bally had asked for their own, out of line with Sega's usual numbering scheme. could easily be a US market proto (so after the game was finished and sold in Japan, but before refinements for export)

Bally bought Sega's US operations around this time as well ('82 or '83), so maybe that ties in somehow...?

Sadly no, Popcorn is only present in sets 1C and 3.
